Hi, I’m capucine chapman.

I was four years old when I cut-up a bundle of rubber bands and gave them to my mother as a Christmas present. I was so excited about creating something new and I really wanted to give her a present. My excitement dwindled quickly after the gift was opened and tiny rubber band pieces fell to the ground. My sisters laughed and well, I took it to heart. My mom said, “Es el pensamiento que cuenta (it’s the thought that counts).”

This experience has and continues to bring treasures of insight and wisdom into my life’s creative endeavors. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

I am a creator. Exploring the creative in everything is limitless and magical. The mysteries of creation expand my consciousness, humble my intellectual brain, and nourish the child within me to dance with light, self-correct as needed, and do my best to give with love. This essence carries through into my teaching, workshops, and how I experiment with all forms of creative expression. I am a forever teacher and learner.

My “daily enriching connection practices” consist of early morning quiet time, journal conversations in both pictures and words, and walking with my buddy Mia.

Capucine received her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Humanities, K-12 Teachers License, and Principal’s License, from the University of Colorado. She received her PhD from the University of Denver, Morgridge College of Education

My process

My creative process is a continuum. It doesn’t begin or end. I am within the mystery and rhythm of the universal creative infrastructure always…as are we all.

I tend to my creative space with devotion, reverence, and I see it as a long, worth-while courtship. It is sacred and an enduring relationship that brings with it wonder, trust, wisdom, and an endless supply of discoveries. It matters to me that I represent and express, to the best of my abilities, what I experience in the world of creation…and the world of creation is bountiful.

As a classroom visual art teacher, it was my hope that every student left my class with wonder about their own creative identity and with a desire to explore their inner landscape. This mattered more to me than the technicalities of making art and using art materials. As a director and leader of teachers in the public school system, my focus was on inspiring a collective mindset that if we asked students to change, we must be willing to do that for ourselves. Every student should feel and know that every teacher they have is “the best teacher.”

I thank every student and colleague for giving me an opportunity to learn alongside them - to self-correct - to make adjustments - and continue to explore and experiment.

Join me as I follow the creative thread into the mysteries of creation and the universe.
